We can no longer recommend Meyers Beach as a guided tour because it is so crowded and there are so many outfitters there at the same time. It is is no longer fun for our guides, and customers are beginning to complain about waiting in line for caves. However, we have come up with a solution, and it is a self-guided rental. Guided tours at Meyers Beach usually have 12-18 people and when they get to a cave they form a line while they wait for the previous group to clear out of the cave and then send their boats in one at a time. A lot of time on a guided tour is spent just waiting around to go in to the cave. However, if you go on a self-guided rental you can paddle anywhere you want and still never be that far away from a kayak guide. Paddling as a self-guided rental also means you won’t be restricted by the same rules as the guided tours. By doing a self-guided rental instead of a guided tour you are getting the benefit of being near a kayak guide at the sea caves, with the flexibility to go through sea caves at your leisure, without needing to wait in a long line for each sea cave. You will need to be able to transport your own kayak down Meyers Road, we have kayak trailers and roof racks for rent.
For the self-guided rental we will provide you with safety training and a map with the locations of all the best caves. We have selected launch times of 9am, 10am and 2pm. These are common times for other outfitters to launch which allows you to paddle the 1.5 crossing amongst the many guided tour groups that are out there at the same time. When you are on a self-guided rental, even though you are exploring on your own, you will likely move much faster through the caves than the guided tours because you don’t have to wait for all 18 people to go through.
There can be as many as 1,000 people paddling Meyers Beach on any given day and most of them are with outfitters. The goal of the self-guided rental is to paddle the crossing amongst the many outfitters and once you are at the caves you can explore on your own without having to wait in line. Once you arrive at Meyers Beach you will have 4 hours with your kayak which is plenty of time to see all the caves at Meyers Beach. Launch times are 9am, 10am and 2pm.
