About this rental package:
Your reservation starts with a FREE training course. We offer free safety course because we want everybody to have an opportunity to take the safety course without any fear of wasting money. If you are unable to demonstrate a solid T rescue at the end of the course we can not rent to you but you aren’t out any money because the safety course is free and we will refund the cost of your rental. We are only concerned with making sure you are able to demonstrate the necessary sea kayak skills before we send you on to Lake Superior in a sea kayak.
Rentals of $500 or more receive 5% off by using coupon code Rental5 at the top of the checkout page

We cannot shuttle rentals inside the park boundary, but we can shuttle them to locations that are outside the park boundary.

Sea Kayak Rental Safety Test & Training Course
Everyone in the group must be able to pass our Sea Kayak Safety Test. To
pass, you must demonstrate a T-rescue and an open-water self re-entry of the kayak you are renting. The duration of the course is 1 hour for groups of 6 or less and up to 2 hours depending on group size.
Please take this time into consideration when planning your rentalitinerary. If you think you can pass without taking the course, please request to demonstrate to us the skills above when you arrive and before taking the course.
We are quite strict about our guidelines for renting sea kayaks for island crossings and we reserve the right to deny/cancel your rental if you are unable to pass the Sea Kayak Rental Safety Test or if we do not think your itinerary is appropriate for your skill level or the weather forecast.
Planning your itinerary
Sea Caves: The best itinerary if you want to paddle sea caves is to put in at Red Cliff and take out in Bark Bay (Herbster, Wi).
This route allows you access to many sea cave locations along the way.
The sea cave locations along the way are Red Cliff, Frog Bay, Oak Island, Sand Island, Meyers Bech, Spirit Point and
Roman’s Point.
If you skip Oak Island and Sand Island every other location is along the mainland shoreline. If you stay along the mainland
shoreline you don’t have to make open water crossings and you can always paddle close to shore. You would need at least 3 days to complete this itinerary.
Beginner paddlers are encouraged to use Basswood Island, Hermit Island, Oak Island, York Island, Raspberry Island,
Otter Island, Ironwood Island, Rocky Island, Manitou Island, South Twin Island and Stockton Island. These islands are
more protected from the West wind and offer a safer paddling experience than Meyers Beach, Sand Island, and Romans Point.
Paddlers with experience
can utilize Sand Island, Bear Island, Cat Island, Meyers Beach, and Romans Point. (these areas are more exposed and require
that you can paddle in 3 foot waves).
We do not allow our rental kayaks to travel to Devil’s Island, North Twin Island, Outer Island, Eagle Island or Michigan Island.
