Open-Water Ice Caves Kayak Tour

This tour has a high chance of cancelation, so instead of signing up for a particular day, we have you sign up for a month.  We will notify people signed up for a particular month, 48 hrs before we think the conditions are going to be good.  If you can’t make it out in the month you choose, you can reschedule to a different month or you can take a 90% refund.

We offer this tour every year to paddlers that have the necessary Winter paddling gear, including a dry suit (we have rental dry suits available), and are at least ACA level 2 paddlers.  We use only our own tandem kayaks for this tour.  We are done with this tour for 2024 but we are taking pre bookings for 2025. You will need at least ACA level 2 to make a pre booking for next year. Our goal with this tour is to get us into 1 if the 5 mainland sea cave locations while they have icicles inside the caves.  The conditions for paddling ice caves can exist from the end November to the beginning of March.  Our best option is the mainland sea caves on the West side of the Bayfield Peninsula at Romans Point but we can only go in when the conditions are good.  If conditions are not good at the sea caves on the West side we may try on the sea caves other side of the peninsula (Red Cliff, Houghton, Bono).  The tour stays near shore and only launches in calm conditions (0.5 ft or less).  

 Every person on the tour will be required to wear a drysuit. You will need waterproof hat, thermal layer(s), waterproof gloves, waterproof footwear.  We provide the kayaks, paddles, bilge pumps, skirts, pogies.   You’ll need to bring or rent the rest.

This tour stays close to shore and does not make any open water crossings.  We only go when it is calm ( less than 0.5 ft wave) and forecasted to stay calm the entire time we are on tour.  There are no open water or island crossings on the main tour or the alternate tour.  It is very rare to get these conditions.

IF YOUR TOUR IS CANCELED BY US FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING WEATHER, YOU WILL RECEIVE A 100% REFUND.  IF YOU CANCEL 98 HOURS OR LESS BEFORE THE TOUR YOU WILL GET A 90% REFUND.  IF YOU ARE A NO-SHOW OR YOU CANCEL ON THE DAY OF THE TOUR, YOU WILL RECEIVE NO REFUND.
